About Reading Readiness Camp

The Reading Readiness Camp is intended to foster a love for reading among young school-going children through hands-on, fun learning activities. Campers will be engaged in small group instruction that focuses on developing their confidence for reading in a supportive environment. Snacks and meals will not be provided. Campers will receive a t-shirt. Note: T-shirt availability is not guaranteed for campers who register after April 30.

Learning Objectives

  • Increase alphabetical knowledge, including naming and sequential skills.
  • Increase knowledge of sound/symbol associations for all consonants, consonant digraphs, and short vowels.
  • Increase phonological awareness abilities.
  • Increase ability to write/print.

 

Location and Times

Camp will be held on the OSU campus in the Social Sciences and Humanities building.

Drop-off will be between 8:45-9:00 a.m. and

Pick-up will be between 11:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. each day.

 

There are three sessions. Each session is grouped by age and lasts 2 weeks, with camp being held Mondays-Thursdays (no camp on Fridays).

 

Session 1

Four and five year olds

Week 1: Monday June 23- Thursday June 26

Week 2: Monday June 30-Thursday July 3

 

Session 2

Six and seven year olds

Week 1: Monday July 7- Thursday July 10

Week 2: Monday July 14- Thursday July 17

 

Session 3

Four and five year olds

Week 1: Monday July 21- Thursday July 24

Week 2: Monday July 28- Thursday July 31


Cost and Availability

Prices listed below are for a 2-week session. T-shirt availability is not guaranteed for any campers registered after April 30. Limited spots are available for each session, but you can choose to be added to a waitlist once sessions are full.

 

· Early Bird Registration (March 1 – April 30): $110

· Late Registration (May 1 – May 30): $130

*T-shirt availability is not guaranteed for late registrations.


Financial Assistance

For those who might need financial assistance, a limited number of scholarships will be offered on a first come, first served basis. See  sliding fee schedule for discount information.


Policies

Cancellation and Refunds

  • A 100% refund is available if a cancellation request is received prior to June 6 at 5 p.m.
  • A 50% refund is available if a cancellation request is received prior to June 20 at 5 p.m.
  • No refunds will be provided after June 20.

 

No-Show Policy

If a student does not show for the first day of camp without notice, the guardian will be contacted and given until 2 p.m. the next day to respond. If the second day provides another no show and no response, the seat will become forfeit and will be provided to a wait-lister without refund to the original registrant.

 

Research

Research may be conducted as part of the camp. Guardians will be provided with more information prior to any research opportunities.

Lisa Ashley joined as a Camp Instructor in 2018 and is a skilled and experienced speech language pathologist.
