2016 Distinguished Alumni

’79, M.S., ’81, B.S. Geology

Jon Glass is Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cinco Oil & Gas, LLC, a privately held exploration and production company located in Dallas, Texas. The son of a farmer, Jon grew up with five brothers and sisters in Iowa, where he learned the value of perseverance and hard work. Paying his own way through college, Jon earned a B.S. in Geology in 1979 and M.S. in Geology in 1981 from OSU. Six years later he earned an M.B.A. in Finance from The University of Tulsa. Jon attributes much of his professional success to the education he received while at Oklahoma State University.

With over 35 years of experience in the energy industry, Jon started out his career as an Exploration Geologist with Texaco, USA in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jon joined Santa Fe Minerals in 1984 where he held a number of managerial roles including managing Santa Fe’s western hemisphere exploration and production efforts. In 1992, Jon left the security of employment with a relatively large company to experience the entrepreneurial world of a startup when he joined Brigham Exploration as Vice President of Exploration and a member of the Board of Directors. While at Brigham, Jon was instrumental in the company’s rapid growth and ultimate initial public offering in 1997. In 1999, Jon became the President and CEO of United Oil and Minerals where he guided the privately held company to a $350MM sale to Westport Resources. In 2002, the culmination of his experience and prior success resulted in Jon starting his own company, Cinco Resources, a predecessor to Cinco Oil &Gas. Under Jon’s leadership Cinco Resources grew from a one-man shop to a significant player in a number of unconventional resource plays. Ultimately, Cinco Resources assets were divested for over $600MM.

In addition to running Cinco Oil & Gas, LLC, Jon serves on the Board of the Dallas Petroleum Club and is a past member of the Dallas Wildcat Committee. He and his wife, Marian, whom he met and married while at OSU, reside in Dallas where they raised their three children, Christine (an OSU graduate), Jonathan, and Caroline. They also enjoy spending time with their grandchild, Chloe, a future OSU graduate!
