B.S. Communication Sciences and Disorders '86

Born in Pennsylvania, Michael Grim’s family moved to Oklahoma at the age of 4 when his father, an Air Force Captain, was transferred to Tinker Air Force Base in 1968.

 

They eventually settled in Oklahoma City, where he attended grade school and Bishop McGuiness High School. He went on to proudly graduate from OSU in 1986 with a degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders. With the very wise advice of Gary Beeby—his much-admired audiology professor and the individual most responsible for Grim’s best career decision—he went on to graduate with a master’s degree in audiology at Purdue University in 1988. He completed his clinic fellowship year at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1989 and then earned a 1995 Ph.D. in audiology at the University of Colorado.

 

Grim returned to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania until taking a position as an assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1998. He worked at OUHSC until 2005, helping to transition the master’s degree program to its current doctoral level. He was subsequently hired at the VA Medical Center where he now gratefully works as the coordinator of the Oklahoma City VAMC’s cochlear implant program.
