Steven Karr, Ph. D.

Steven Karr received his doctorate in western American history with an emphasis on Native American history from OSU in 2001. In May 2014, he was named President of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

 

Before returning to Oklahoma, he was a founding director for the Briscoe Western Art Museum in San Antonio, director and curator at the Southwest Museum of the American Indian at the Autry Naitonal Center in Los Angeles, and an assistant curator of history at the National HIstory Museum in Los Angeles.

 

Karr has taught American Indian history at UCLA and at the Native American Studies Institute at the University of California-Berkley. He is widely published in the field of American Indian history and has received several major federal, state and private grants and fellowships. From 2007-2013, he was a Distinguished Lecturer for the Organization of American Historians.
