Dr. Scott Kegler was born and raised on the east side of St. Paul, Minnesota. As an undergraduate student, he attended the University of Minnesota, earning bachelor’s degrees in economics (1979) and statistics (1990). In between these two academic pursuits, he was employed by the Minnesota Department of Corrections as a research analyst and by the Minneapolis Star Tribune newspaper as a systems analyst.

In the years just prior to joining the Oklahoma State University Department of Statistics graduate program, Scott attended North Carolina State University, earning master’s degrees in operations research (1992) and applied mathematics (1995). After completing his Ph.D. in statistics at OSU (1999), he was briefly employed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in a postdoctoral study position, followed by more than 20 years working as a mathematical statistician at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia.

While at the CDC, Scott’s work focused primarily on injury surveillance and prevention within the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. In addition to both publishing in and reviewing on behalf of various journals, Scott was a frequent contributor to the CDC’s flagship publication, the “Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.”
