Sharron Miller grew up in Perry, Oklahoma, where at the age of thirteen she decided to become a filmmaker. She began writing and directing short films as a teenager.

 

After graduating from OSU with a degree in Theater in 1971 she moved to Los Angeles where she worked first a script supervisor and then as a film editor. In 1976 she began her directing career on “The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams” series, making her one of only seven women directors working in Hollywood at the time.

 

Sharron now has over one hundred directing credits, from television series and pilots, to movies of the week, documentaries, and dramatic shorts. She has directed such award winning shows as “Cagney & Lacey,” “China Beach,” “L.A. Law,” “Homefront,” “Christy,” “Sisters,” “The Paper

 

Chase,” “The Client,” “The Outsiders,” “The Trials of Rosie O’Neill,” “American Playhouse,”

 

“The District,” and “The Woman Who Willed a Miracle.”

 

In 1983 she became the first woman in history to win the Directors Guild of America Award for directing a dramatic (non-documentary) film.

 

Additionally, she has won two Emmys, a Peabody Award, the Women in Film Lillian Gish

 

Award, two Viewers for Quality Television Award, and three New York Film and TV Festival

 

Gold Medal Awards.

 

Sharron is presently developing a feature film based upon her adaption of the Tony Award winning play, “Morning’s at Seven.”
