B.S. Speech Pathology '82

Mona Ryan earned a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology from OSU in 1982. She then earned a master’s degree in speech pathology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She worked as a speech-language pathologist in Oklahoma City Schools and then Western Heights Public Schools. She is now a clinical associate professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program at OUHSC. 

 

Mona served as American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s first State Education Advocacy Leader for Oklahoma and was also on the Continuing Education Board. She became an ASHA Fellow in 2011 and received the ASH Foundation State Clinical Achievement Award in 2014.   

 

Mona is presently a site visitor for the Council for Academic Accreditation and is serving her second term as president for the Oklahoma Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Since 2007, she has been an influential force in securing salary supplements for school-based speech-language pathologists, audiologists and school psychologists.  

 

Among her many accomplishments, Mona helped develop Oklahoma City Community College’s first online master’s program for speech-language pathology assistants, was recognized as the 2009 OSU CSCID Alumni of the Year, and earned the 2017 OUHSC College of Allied Health Faculty in Outstanding Teaching Award. 

 

Mona’s husband, Mike, is a 1982 OSU graduate in wildlife research. Their twins, Molly and Jonathan, are also OSU alumni.
