Judge Barbara Swinton

B.S. Political Science '82

Barbara Swinton was appointed to serve on the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals on September 16, 2016. She was elected District Judge for Oklahoma County in November 2002 and served in that capacity until 2016. Prior to her election, Barbara served as a Special Judge from 1996 to 2002.  

 

Barbara earned a B.S. with honors in political science from OSU in 1982 and went on to Georgia State University School of Law. 

 

During her legal career, Barbara practiced general civil and family law for four years and also served as a trial attorney for a year, handling family law and federal civil rights cases. She has served as president of the Oklahoma County Bar Association, president of the Oklahoma Judicial Conference Executive Board, chairman of the Oklahoma Judges Association, co-chair of the OBA Bench and Bar Committee, and has been on the Oklahoma Bar Association Professionalism Committee. Judge Swinton is an adjunct professor at Oklahoma Christian University Law School, currently serves on the OSU Political Science Advisory Board, and is a life member of the OSU Alumni Association. 

 

Barbara and her husband Charles have three children and two grandchildren.
