Miranda Childress

2024 Rising Star

B.S. Geology, '12; M.S. Geology, '15

Miranda Childress is from Morrison, Oklahoma, and started as a freshman at Oklahoma State University in 2008. Through an introductory geology course led by Dr. Jim Puckette, Miranda quickly found her passion for geology and knew she wanted to pursue a career as a geologist in the oil and gas industry.

Upon receiving her bachelor’s degree in geology in 2012, she continued graduate course work at OSU in pursuance of her master’s degree under the advisement of Dr. G. Michael Grammer. Her research was focused on high resolution carbonate sequence stratigraphy in Mississippian-age strata in the Midcontinent.

Following an internship at Devon Energy and completing her master’s degree in 2015, Miranda started as a full-time geologist at Devon Energy. Since then, she has had the opportunity to work multiple basins across the U.S., including the Anadarko, Midland and Permian Basins.

Starting in 2022, Miranda has been in her role as asset supervisor in the Delaware Basin Business Unit at Devon, where she leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for the appraisal and development of hydrocarbon resources in the eastern Delaware Basin.

Miranda remains an active member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Oklahoma City Geological Society, while also dedicating time to the Devon Internship Program, recruitment and STEM outreach.
