Victoria Som de Cerff Edmonds
2023 Rising Star
B.S. Computer Science '15
Computer science wasn’t the field Victoria Edmonds (née Som de Cerff) planned to enter when she came to Oklahoma State University — she’d wanted to solve crimes using mathematics like she’d seen on the TV show Numb3rs. But after receiving encouragement from her engineering-filled family to investigate computer science, she took a computer science course with Dr. Blayne Mayfield and fell in love with it.
“I learned that I could make things happen with code,” said Victoria, who went on
to intern with ExxonMobil before securing a full-time job with the company after graduation.
Originally from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Victoria was hesitant to accept the New Jersey-based
position; not only would it take her away from her family, but she had also just started
dating fellow OSU student Todd Edmonds, who still had another year of school.
“It was a huge bravery moment,” Victoria said. “But I took a leap of faith, and I
really love this role.”
Until recently, Victoria was the product manager of Research High Performance Computing
at ExxonMobil. In August, she took the position of principal systems administrator
at Schrödinger in New York.
In addition to receiving a bachelor’s degree in computer science from OSU in 2015,
Victoria earned a master’s degree from Columbia University in 2019. Her body of work
includes the development of algorithms, platform design and the architecture of strategy
for some of the largest super computers in the world. She holds several patents, publications
and recognitions in the field of machine learning.
Victoria is married to Todd, who was a 2022 CAS Rising Star. Together they enjoy glassblowing
classes, cooking new foods with Victoria’s grandmother and are active in serving their
Jersey City community.
