Bec Sommer, MFA

Bec Sommer is a painter and interdisciplinary artist who has worked in drawing, digital video, sound, screenwriting, and sculpture.  He received his B.F.A. from Kansas City Art Institute in Painting in 2020 and his M.F.A. from Cornell University in Visual Arts in 2023.  His work uses “textual poaching” practices from fandom communities to explore issues of infatuation, dysphoria, morality, and object/subject dynamics informed from psychoanalytic disciplines.  Bec has shown his work nationally at Ortega Y Gasset Projects in Brooklyn, NY and regionally at Vulpes Bastille and Leedy-Voulkos Gallery in Kansas City and has been in residence at the SOMA Summer Residency in Tlaxcala, Mexico.  His work has been published by the podcast I Like Your Work and in Paper Dragon at Drexel University.
