Applications Requirements

Completed Slate application

One 5- to 7-pages art history research paper for art history majors or six high-quality
images of recent studio or graphic design work for studio/graphic design majors.

Recommendation from at least one faculty member familiar with your work (be sure to email the faculty member reminding they submit your recommendation!)
Formatting
Documents may be either a Word Document or PDF. Each page may have 1–3 images of one project (examples: overall shots, close-ups, different angles). Each work must have the following information: title, medium, size, date and a few sentences describing your concept/purpose. For video work, images should be screenshots of your video with a link to the video (maximum of 60 seconds of run time).
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for these awards:
- You must be a currently enrolled student in good academic standing working towards a degree in Studio Art, Art History, or Graphic Design at OSU. During the period of your award, you must take at least 12 credits each semester (unless otherwise indicated).
- Current first year students are eligible to apply; it is expected that award recipients will have earned a minimum of 30 credits by the end of the summer 2024 term.
- Awards will be based primarily on achievement within the department, with consideration given to overall academic success. Therefore, your GPA, the quality of your submitted work, and the letter(s) of recommendation are the main criteria used by the Scholarship Committee in determining award recipients.
- To be competitive for these scholarships, your departmental GPA should be at least 3.25, with a minimum 2.5 GPA overall.
- Students who wish to be considered for the Dana, Lisa and Chris Tiger Endowed Scholarship must submit a short statement (100 words or less) on why they are eligible for this award.
Application implies consent of the applicant to have his or her records, including transcripts, viewed by the members of the Scholarship Committee of the Department of Art, Graphic Design, and Art History. It also implies consent for submitted materials to become the property of the department and to be used for promotional purposes. Successful applicants will be informed of their award by the end of February.

- Art Scholarship Endowed Fund (Goldston) (1–2 awards)
- Recipient must be a student in the College of Arts and Sciences and enrolled in Art Department classes.
- Open to non-majors
- Barbara Chitwood Art Appreciation Scholarship (3–4 awards)
- Open to all Art Department majors
- B.J. SMITH Endowed Scholarship Fund (1–2 awards)
- Recipient must be a full time junior or senior (as of fall 2021)
- Recipient must be a Studio Art major
- Recipient must have a cumulative GPA must be 3.0 or above
- Carson Scott Scholarship (1–2 awards)
- Recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student at Oklahoma State University in the Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History
- Recipient must have documented financial need
- Frickenschmidt Scholarship (1 award)
- Must be a junior or senior Studio Art Major, enrolled full-time
- James Rosenquist Endowed Scholarship in Honor of J. Jay McVicker (1 award)
- Open to Studio Art (preferred), Graphic Design, and Art History majors
- J. Jay McVicker Endowed Scholarship in Art (1–2 awards)
- Restricted to full-time students studying Art. MAY BE RENEWED
- Lyn Gunter Memorial Arts Scholarship (1 award)
- Applicants must complete 32 credit hours by end of summer 2021
- Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 and an Art Department of GPA 3.5
- Must be a Studio Art major
- Sarah Clark Memorial Endowed Scholarship (1 award)
- Open to Studio Art (preferred) and Graphic Design majors
- Robert Rauschenberg Endowed Art Scholarship in Honor of Arthur Benson and Robert Rauschenberg
Endowed Art Scholarship in Honor of Dale McKinney and Dean Bloodgood (2 scholarships/awards)Scholarship in honor of Dale McKinney and Dean Bloodgood:
- Recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student at the University
- Recipient must show great promise in painting and/or other forms of two-dimensional art, including but not necessarily limited to photography and new media.
- Recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student at the University
- Recipient must show great promise in sculpture, including but not necessarily limited to all types of three-dimensional art, embracing traditional as well as contemporary materials and techniques.
- Wayman R. and Donna Spence Endowed Art Scholarship (Medical Heritage) (6–8 awards)
- Preference given to students with an Art Department GPA of 3.5 and a minimum 2.75 GPA overall
- Open to all full-time majors in the Art Department
- Robert Rauschenberg Endowed Art Scholarship in Honor of Marty Avrett (1 award)
- Recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student at the University.
- Preference given to members of Native American Tribes only found in Oklahoma.
- Dana, Lisa and Chris Tiger Endowed Scholarship (1–2 awards)
- The recipient must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student at the University and must be an Art Department major or minor
- Preference shall be given to students who are actively engaged in the Native American community.
- Consideration may be given to students who are engaged in advancing the educational goals of diversity and cultivating a rich campus environment at Oklahoma State University, including but not limited to considerations of a candidate's economic disadvantages, neighborhood and community circumstances, and the impact of a candidate's cultural experiences, backgrounds, and special talents. Such considerations shall be made on an individualized basis and not on assumptions based on gender, race, ethnicity or national origin.
- Nick and Carol Bormann Endowed Scholarship for Graphic Design
- The recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student at the University.
- The recipient must be enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences, pursuing a degree in Graphic Design.
