EGSA Awards and Funds

Travel

EGSA will grant travel awards as funds permit; this means that the award amount will vary depending on funds, number of applications, and number of awards granted. The purpose of the awards is to encourage graduate students in the English Department to participate in activities that will aid them in their professional development such as conference and workshop attendance, on-location research, and more. Students may apply for travel awards for any professional development purpose; however, EGSA reserves the right to reject applications if it is deemed those applications are beyond the scope of these travel awards.

A flat $200 award for eligible applicants is the goal, but as is stated in several places, this award total is dependent upon various factors including EGSA funds, number of applicants, and more.

Description and Guidelines

Application cycles reflect the academic year. Each travel application should address travel within the academic year in which it is submitted. Each Academic year spans July 1 through June 30.

For example, applications submitted in February 2023 would be eligible if travel occurs between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023

Because of the limited funds within EGSA, applicants are limited to one application per academic year.

Please email applications to osuegsa@gmail.com or place them in the EGSA mailbox in Morrill 205.

Selection Process for Awards

A selection committee of EGSA officers will choose submissions that qualify for the award. Guidelines for determining award winners include:

  • Applicants who have not received financial support from other sources (either within OSU or elsewhere) will be given priority consideration.

  • Equity among the five programs within the English department will be taken into consideration when selecting awards.

  • Should any EGSA officer apply for funding, they will recuse themselves from awards decision-making.

EGSA Emergency Funds

The EGSA has set aside funds for the purpose of addressing monetary emergencies amongst its Graduate Student Body. This is also intended to be a flat sum of $200 per recipient, but it may vary based on similar factors as the travel award (EGSA Funds, number of applicants, etc.).

As an organization, we wanted to make this process more streamlined than other emergency funds that are available. Please fill out the following request form:
