Prepare for Auditions

To sign up and receive audition materials, please contact Assistant Professor of Professional Practice/Production Manager, Marley Giggey at mgiggey@okstate.edu

The following is a short-list of how to prepare for the auditions.

What should I bring?

  • Two (2) 8x10 headshots with resume attached.
  • Device with your music cued up and ready to go. Bluetooth and aux connections available.
  • Binder with sheet music for the accompanist. Music should be single-sheet, double-sided, hole punched and put in a 1-inch, dark binder.

What will be included in the audition?

  • If you are auditioning for Airness you will need to perform a monologue and air guitar piece.
  • If you are auditioning for Ride the Cyclone you will need to perform a monologue and song.
  • If you are auditioning for both, you will need to prepare a monologue, a song, and an air guitar piece.
  • Be sure to practice your audition AS A WHOLE! This should include your slate, transitions between pieces, and ending.

What should I wear?

  • Performers should dress confidently! Wear something that shows your personality and lets you move.

What should I prepare to read?

  • Prepare and memorize a monologue of your choice. It should not go longer than one minute.
  • The monologue should not come from Airness or Ride the Cyclone.

What should I prepare to sing?

  • Prepare a 16-bar (approx. 30-45 seconds) cut of song that best showcases your vocal style and range.
  • Styles may include contemporary musical theatre, Motown, Gospel, pop, rock, or hip-hop.
  • You may sing rock or pop songs from other musicals.
  • Please do not sing material from Ride the Cyclone.

What should I be prepared to ROCK?

  • Prepare a 20 second devised performance of air guitar that slays.
  • The music needs to be a 20 second cut from a less than recognized piece of rock music.
  • It needs to include:
    • A moment on the ground/floor
    • A moment of direct connection to someone in the audience
    • Have a powerful beginning when the music starts
    • A moment of integrated dance choreography that DOES NOT DETER from the playing of wicked air guitar simultaneously
    • Have a one-of-a-kind pose/statue freeze at its finale that *clearly* indicates the end of your piece.
