Inspired by the National Day of Action For Higher Education on April 17, 2025, the OSU Center for the Humanities is pleased to convene an open gathering and planning forum focused generally on the Crisis in Higher Education as it pertains to Humanities research. This meeting follows the Center’s statement of support released on April 11.
Our goal for this meeting is fairly simple: we want to draw together humanities colleagues from across CAS and OSU to encourage dialogue around to leverage our collective strengths toward supporting our research and teaching. We seek to build community as response to increasingly difficult conditions, including but not limited to material support for our scholarship. Though the agenda for this meeting is open and inclusive, we imagine conversations touching upon:
-
How can the Center for the Humanities be a further catalyst or tool for greater support, and what does that support look like?
-
Exploring support from sources beyond the College
-
Lobbying for humanities research
-
Developing new ways to promote and share research, student work, classes, collaborations such as a monthly forum.
-
Community building activities
-
Engaging with OSU’s American Association of University Professors chapter to build support and connect us with academic initiatives outside our campus.
We’re certain other ideas will emerge so for now, please hold Friday, May 2, 2025 from Noon to 1pm. We will meet in The Parlor in the Social Sciences and Humanities Building.
