REU Site: Polynomials and Their Zeros
Organized by Paul Fili and Igor Pritsker
This page will serve a future REU "Polynomials and Their Zeros" that will be tentatively
held at the Department of Mathematics of Oklahoma State University in summers. We
hope to start this REU school in summer 2024, depending on availability of funding
from NSA and NSF.
The topics of polynomials and their zeros cross practically all areas of mathematics,
and go far beyond into many sciences. Yet many of such problems are very easy to understand
for undergraduates, and they also have quite accessible partial ingredients. The REU
will start with several carefully prepared mini-courses designed to refresh the basic
knowledge on polynomials, introduce students to new areas, and provide them with tools
for research. Further research work will be conducted primarily in groups of four
to five undergraduate students, led by the organizers and several instructors selected
among young talented Ph.D. students working in the relevant areas. An important part
of REU activities will take place in a computer laboratory, where students will be
working on numerical experiments, making and testing conjectures, and developing new
algorithms.
