Academy Singers 

The OSU Academy Singers provides young people from grades 1 through 12  the opportunity to sing quality choral music representing a variety of styles, eras, and cultures. Singers will expand their vocal development, enhance their musicianship skills, and experience a variety of traditional and contemporary repertoire appropriate for their age and vocal maturity.

About Us 

The OSU Academy Singers program is dedicated to providing singers grades 1 through 12 quality music instruction in a choral setting. Repertoire includes a mixture of traditional, multicultural, and contemporary music designed to expand our students' musical horizons. Academy Singers is broken down into two age groups: our Primary Level for grades 1-5, led by Dr. Julia Haley,  and our Secondary Level for grades 6-12, led by Dr. Ben Kambs

 

Primary Level

Group focus includes the development of beautiful tone along with music reading and performing skills through unison, 2- and 3-part treble singing (SA and SSA). Academy Singers Primary Level takes place on Wednesdays 5:00PM-6:00PM in the Greenwood School of Music, Room 110.

 

Secondary Level

Musicianship is further developed and students have the opportunity to engage in 4-part singing (SATB). Academy Singers Secondary Level takes place on Wednesdays from 5:00 – 6:00 PM in the Greenwood School of Music, Room 319.

 

Tuition is $100 per semester if selected individually. If taking vocal lessons, Academy Singers is automatically included in the tuition.

Introductory Meeting

Participation in Academy Singers requires an introductory meeting for the new members and Dr. Haley to get acquainted with each other. The meeting lasts about ten minutes and no prepared song is necessary. Dr. Haley will do a brief evaluation of the student's vocal range, quality, and tonal memory skills to ascertain their vocal independence.
