CAS Archaeological Field School

Travel dates: June 3 - 14, and June 21 - July 2, 2024
This course will be a fieldwork practicum. Students will have an opportunity to work alongside professional archaeologists in an outdoor setting to learn about the archaeological methods and technologies utilized to identify past cultural remains. At Chancellor Ranch, in southeastern Colorado, archaeological methods will be taught and used in locating material culture from the past. These remains will include Native American sites or other early settler sites; Native or non-Native artifacts; architectural remains; and any other evidence of human occupation. Instead of abstractly discussing archaeological methods in a classroom setting, students will engage in “hands on” learning. Everyone will participate equally in all field activities, including pedestrian survey, mapping, testing, and other archaeological activities.
The program enrollment is currently full. If you wish to be on a waitlist, please email shane.omealey@okstate.edu.
