Scholarships & Financial Aid

Departmental Scholarships are available to incoming and transfer students pursuing full-time BA & BFA degrees within the Department of Theatre. All awards are credited towards the students’ bursar accounts for the following semester(s). Individual award amounts are between $500-$2500 annually. Additionally, there are Professional Development Awards and Emergency Need-Based Awards available for students, with applications accepted at any time during the year.

Sudden Financial Need and/or Professional Development

In order to be eligible for Department Theatre Scholarships:

  • Students must be enrolled full time in the Department of Theatre and in good academic standing with the University, which requires a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.
  • To be competitive for these scholarships, your departmental GPA should be at least 3.0 with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Current first year students are eligible to apply; it is expected that award recipients will have earned a minimum of 24 credits by the end of their second semester on campus.
  • Awards will be based primarily on achievement within the department, with consideration given to overall academic success. Therefore your GPA, your steady involvement in the life of the department, and your application materials are the main criteria used by the Scholarship Committee in determining award recipients.
  • Students with renewable scholarship awards must apply for the scholarship each year to be considered for award renewal. 
  • Students receiving an award are required to write a Thank You letter to the donor prior to receiving scholarship funds.

How to apply:

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

  1. Consider each Theatre Scholarship's criteria and whether you meet the requirements prior to completing and submitting your application online. 
  2. Prepare a Narrative to upload in pdf format. Please put your name on your typed narrative. In 500 to 1000 words, please address the following:
    1. Why are you best fit to receive the scholarship(s) you selected?
    2. What are your career goals in relation to your major?
    3. Indicate individual circumstances confronting your current financial standing.
  3. Prepare your current Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV) to upload in pdf format. 
  4. Fill out the application form online.
  • Submission Deadline: 5:00 PM, January 31st
  • Applications received after submission deadline will not be considered.
  • Application implies consent of the applicant to have their records, including transcripts, viewed by the members of the Scholarship Committee of the Department of Theatre.
