Professional Development Opportunity for Teachers
Water Research, Assessment, and Networking Ecosystem (WRANE) for Informal Geoscience Instruction on Water Geoscience.
Teacher Support:
Funding: Through generous funding from the National Science Foundation, we are pleased to announce the development of WRANE, of professional development opportunity for teachers and a resume-building, learning opportunity for their students.
Teachers and students will learn about geoscience research and career opportunities while developing their own community-based, water-research study. WRANE student groups will receive mentoring from OSU geology faculty and present their research at a summer research symposium on the OSU campus.
Teachers will receive up to $1300 in compensation for participating in the research project. Teachers will also receive student research support in the form of classroom laboratory materials and supplies.

Tentative Itinerary
Summer 2024
- Teachers meet at Oklahoma State University, Boone Pickens’ School of Geology in Stillwater, OK for a one-day training on the WRANE program, citizen science research, and establishing WRANE groups at their schools
- Teachers establish and recruit students into their school-based WRANE program
Academic year 2024-2025
- WRANE student groups develop and conduct their research projects.
- Teachers and students receive online mentoring from university faculty and industry experts.
Late Spring 2025:
- Participate in WRANE Research Symposium
