Abstract
The Computer Science Department at Oklahoma State University proudly introduces the Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program designed to empower Oklahoma’s STEM educators with hands-on experience in the exciting fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and related fields. This program provides K-12, pre-service, and community college teachers with the tools and knowledge to integrate cutting-edge technologies into their classrooms, enhancing student engagement and preparing them for future careers. Through immersive research, industry collaboration, and innovative curriculum development, teachers will explore real-world challenges in fields like healthcare, agriculture, and data security while gaining practical, lifelong skills to inspire the next generation of problem-solvers.
2022-2023: Big Data and Machine/Deep Learning, a Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program designed to empower Oklahoma’s STEM educators with hands-on experience in the exciting fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
2025-2027: SecurAIty Nexus, a Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program designed to empower Oklahoma’s STEM educators with hands-on experience in the exciting fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Cybersecurity.
Objectives
- Empower Educators with AI Knowledge:
Equip teachers with a deep understanding of AI, ML, and cybersecurity concepts, including hands-on programming in Python and real-world applications. - Transform Teaching Practices:
Provide educators with innovative curriculum materials and strategies to seamlessly integrate research insights into their classrooms, making STEM more engaging and relevant for students. - Foster Lasting Collaboration:
Build enduring partnerships between teachers, OSU faculty, school districts, community colleges, and industry leaders to advance CS and STEM education in Oklahoma. - Promote Ethical and Responsible AI Use:
Increase awareness of ethical considerations and system vulnerabilities, empowering educators to teach students how to responsibly use and create AI solutions.
